My Letter to President Trump about Crime and Punishment

February 15, 2018

Dear Mr. President,

I agree with the Democrats and the mainstream media; it is time for you, our President, to "Step up and do something about these mass shootings."

But gun control is not the remedy. Here is what we should expect from you and our government.

We don't need investigations into the shooter's head. I don't care why he did it and, knowing why is not going to bring back the dead, satisfy their families, or protect society.

And we don't need diagnoses from psychologists either. It doesn't matter if he is mentally ill.

What we need from our government is a swift and fair trial for the accused and, if he is convicted, we need a long incarceration or, in this case, a speedy execution. That is the biblical and constitutional responsibility of government, to "wield the sword" in the execution of a blind (that means indiscriminate) system of justice.

The commission of crimes MUST have real consequences for the criminals; we don't need our government to administer understanding, compassion, rehabilitation, correction, treatment or any other ineffective, touchy-feely nonsense.

So, Mr. President, you should step up and insist on the right and appropriate punishment of criminals; not victims. And when our government starts doing its job, the penal system will be, once again, an effective deterrent. The crime rates will decrease, and we will all be safer.

(And, by the way, why is Hillary still walking around? but I digress.)

Thank You for Making America Great Again.

Sincerely,

Ralph M. Petersen
